Australian skipper Pat Cummins was beaming at the end of the Test match in MCG, which the side won by 184 runs. The win now puts Australia one step closer to qualification for the WTC finals against South Africa in June. Cummins came out to address the media at the end of the game, and one Indian journalist asked him, “Thoughts on Bumrah, and are you feeling sympathy for him?
To which the Australian skipper sarcastically replied, “He's a great bowler; he bowled very good spells. Sympathy? Not really”. Jasprit Bumrah has so far been the top wicket taker across both sides. The 31-year-old has picked up 30 wickets, which included his fifer during the second innings of the MCG match.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins had a great game with the bat and ball at MCG. The 31-year-old picked a total of 6 wickets and also scored 90 runs with the bat. Cummins had scored 49 in the first and followed it up with 41 in the second inning. His partnership of 57 runs for the 7th wicket changed the course of the game in the second inning.
Massive crowds had thronged to watch the final day of the pulsating Boxing Day Test between Australia and India. The turning point of the game was the wicket of Rishabh Pant, after which the visitors crumbled under sustained pressure. Cummins got the big wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, which has stirred up huge controversy.
Speaking to the broadcasters at the end of the game, Cummins said, “Happy to contribute, amazing innings from Smith to hold the first innings together. Getting more than 400 in the first inning set the game for us. You always think anything can happen. We bowled well in the first session to have them 3/30. They batted well in the middle session. We knew that we had to get one breakthrough and anything can happen and that proved to be the case.”
When asked about Steve Smith’s knock, Cummins replied, “It wasn't an easy wicket; he showed how to bat on it. He got an opportunity, and he pounced and really upped the ante with the tailenders. He also took some catches, which often go unnoticed.”
