Punjab Kings who are set to play Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday will be missing one of their key players. The Indian Premier League 2014 runners-up are already out of the 2024 season and currently 10th in the points table.
The player in question is none other than fast bowler Kagiso Rabada who has flown back. Kagiso Rabada is a huge player for South Africa and will be looked at as a key player during the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone are already back in the UK to prepare for the upcoming mega event. The loss of Kagiso Rabada will further hamper the team as they look to get out of the bottom of the table.
Kagiso Rabada adds to Punjab Kings woes
Earlier in the day it was reported that Punjab Kings pacer Kagiso Rabada was due to an injury. The injury in question is to his “lower limb soft tissue”. Since the South Africans didn’t want to take a chance before the tournament, PBKS decided to send the pacer back early to get fit in time for the huge event.
The game against Rajasthan Royals is their penultimate game of the season. This season Punjab Kings spent a lot on the players and have yet again failed to deliver. The emergence of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma has been a huge plus.
Prabhsimran Singh and Harpreet Brar are the two young talents who have done well with the bat and ball. Harshal Patel who had a bad IPL 2023 season has found his form again and has been one of the best bowlers of the season.
Many cricket fans will remember Punjab Kings for their huge run chase against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. A century by Jonny Bairstow and a half-century from Shashank Singh helped the PBKS chase down the huge target of 262 to win in the 19th over.
Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat first as his team needed to win the game to make it to the playoffs. Royals have lost three games in a row and need one win to make sure of qualification to the playoffs to become the second team after KKR to reach the final phase of the season.
