While playing the 2nd Test match against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka records a rare feat. In the 1st innings, they scored 531 runs where no batter scored a century. Moreover, the series played is a part of the ICC Test Championship where they recorded the highest score ever without a batter's century. All the batters played extremely well, however, couldn't convert their scores successfully.
In the first innings, 6 batters scored half-centuries but could not convert their scores into triple figures. They played some great innings but Kushal Mendis scored the highest, 93 runs off 150 balls while Dimuth Karunaratne scored 86 runs off 129 runs and Kamindu Mendis scored 92 runs off 167 runs.
However, Kamindu Mendis was not out while batting as the tail-enders could not extend their support. Except for Angelo Matthews and the tailenders, all the other batters scored half-centuries in the game. Moreover, in the first Test match, Sri Lanka won the match by 328 runs.
Bangladesh bowlers fail; trail by 476 runs
Sri Lanka batters proved their worth by scoring 531 runs while Bangladesh bowlers failed massively in their home ground. While Sri Lanka's openers gave a great start to the match, the middle order carried the innings beautifully. Most of their batters scored half-centuries while the tail-enders failed to do so. Sri Lanka decided to bat first upon winning the toss and seems like the decision went in their favour.
Kushal Mendis (93) and Kamindu Mendis (92) scored the most runs for the team while Dimuth Karunaratne played a fantastic and confident innings of 86 runs off 129 balls. Moreover, for Bangladesh, Shakib-ul-Hasan took three wickets while Hasan Mahmud took two wickets and Khaled Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each. As the match proceeds it will be intriguing to see Bangladesh's batting and how they respond to the situation.
