Amidst the ongoing controversies around Rohit Sharma's snub from the Indian team for the fifth Test match, former India player Sanjay Manjrekar commented on the situation. As per Manjrekar, Rohit did the right thing by opting himself out of the team because of his terrible form. Also, there was not much talks around his absense during the toss, raising eyebrows as to what's really happening in the team.

"So typical of Rohit Sharma. Doing the right thing, doing what’s right for the team. But could not understand the ‘cloak & dagger’ around the issue. Wasn’t even talked about at the toss," tweeted Sanjay Manjrekar.

Rohit missed the first Test match and returned in the second, taking over the captaincy, even though India won the first game. After that, India lost two games, while one ended in a draw due to bad weather. Rohit's contribution in all the games were next to negligible as the player was struggling hard to get some runs on the board.

As per reports, Rohit was dropped from the team because head coach Gautam Gambhir wasn't happy with the player's approach in terms of captaincy. Since India were losing games, a stern decision was taken in the benefit of the team.

'Our skipper has opted to rest' - Jasprit Bumrah

During the toss, when Ravi Shastri asked Jasprit Bumrah regarding Rohit Sharma's absence from the game, he just had one things to say, 'Our skipper has opted out.' This statement doesn't give clarity about the situation. Also, no reason was given as to why he opted out of the game while no other changes were made in the team.

"We have played some good cricket. The last match was exciting. The grass doesn't look spicy. We always have learnt to digest defeats. We will look forward to this. Our skipper has opted to rest. It shows the unity we have," said Jasprit Bumrah at the toss.
