Team India's performance in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 has been terrific, and the partial credit will surely go to Shreyas Iyer for his outstanding contributions in most of the games. In four games, the player has scored 195 runs at an average of 48.75. Well, Iyer isn't included in the BCCI's central contract yet. Last year, in February, BCCI removed him from the contract because he failed to play in the domestic set-up.
However, he was later picked up by the selectors after scoring runs consistently. Now, as per reports, Iyer is likely to be included in the BCCI's central contract. After his terrific performance at the ICC event, BCCI might forget the past and add him to the contract since he is playing on the national team. Not only in the international tournaments, Iyer's performance in the domestic games has also been astounding.
The Board will release the BCCI's central contract in the upcoming days after the tournament is over. It's understood that the top players, including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and many more, will be retained. Also, there will be quite a few changes in the contract, considering the performance of the players.
He gets the better of them: Aakash Chopra
Meanwhile, India's former cricketer, Aakash Chopra, detailedly analyzed the finals of the Champions Trophy game. He has placed his bets on Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips, who might do well in the final game. New Zealand have good spin option as well, which will be important against India.
"I think they can be. I think Shreyas Iyer has only one score less than 30 in all ODIs he has played against New Zealand. Every time he scores the runs. The bowling is very good in the middle overs. You get Mitchell Santner and (Michael) Bracewell there. You might see Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips as well. However, this guy plays spin so well. He plays spin so comfortably that he gets the better of them. So the focus will be on him," said Aakash Chopra.
