Former Indian star Shikhar Dhawan has put his weight behind struggling duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The 39-year-old has said that the two stars will do well during the upcoming tour of Australia and help the team win their third series in a row.
“I believe we have a solid chance to bag a hat-trick of title wins in Australia. We’ve done exceptionally well in the last two series there. I’m sure the team will go to Australia with a positive, winning mindset,” said Shikhar Dhawan.
The former Indian star also said, “Rohit, Virat, and even Bumrah have played extensively in Australia, and they’ll share their experiences with the younger players. This new generation is confident, motivated and eager to perform. They’ve established themselves quickly on the international stage, which is a tremendous advantage for us in Australia. Though pace is always a challenge there, our batters are well-prepared to handle it."
Josh Hazlewood warns Australia against complacency
Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood has warned his team against taking India lightly. The veteran pacer has said that the home team cannot read much into India’s 3-0 loss at home to New Zealand.
Hazlewood, during his chat with the Sydney Morning Herald, said, “It might awaken a sleeping giant, so to speak. We will see that when they come out. It is obviously better losing 3-0 than winning 3-0, easily.”
“The confidence might have taken a bit of a hit. A lot of them have been out here, but there are a few batters who have not, so they will be a bit unsure of what to expect. I do not think you can read too much into it. The results are obviously good for us in a way," further added Hazlewood.
Australian speedster also said, “Credit to the Kiwi boys. They played outstanding cricket. To win 3-0 in India is unbelievable. It’s hard enough to win one game there, let alone every match of the series."
Team India have to win the series not only to keep their WTC Finals hopes alive but also for some players to keep their places. It was reported that BCCI are looking to make some changes if India fails to qualify for the WTC finals. The changes include phasing out senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ashwin and Jadeja.
