Discussions and opinions are out in Indian cricketing corridors as the BCCI and Indian team management gear up for the upcoming tour of England. They plan to pick a strong senior squad for the five-match Test series against England and some talented youngsters for the India A team.
In the same line of events, the star pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur is also set to make it to India's Test squad for the series against England. A report in Cricbuzz understands that the selectors are seriously considering the name of Shardul Thakur in India’s Test squad for the series against the Englishmen.
Indian selectors also look forward to considering two names for wicketkeeping, including Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant. The report states that, “There is no definitive information on whether Ishan Kishan will be considered. With Jurel and Rishabh Pant in the senior squad, chances of his selection in either squad are not guaranteed. Andhra's Ricky Bhui, the top scorer of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, is unlikely to be picked.”
Shardul Thakur’s wait for Test likely to end
Returning to Shardul Thakur, he has impressed with his performances in a short and impressive Test career for India. He has scalped 31 wickets in 19 innings, including a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul to his name. Besides that, the 33-year-old has also scored 331 runs in 18 innings, with four half-centuries to his credit.
He was recently in action for the LSG franchise in the Indian Premier League 2025 before the tournament was suspended. Thakur scalped 12 wickets in nine innings, including a four-wicket haul. The star pace-bowling all-rounder was picked by the LSG at the last moment as a replacement for the injured Mohsin Khan, who was ruled out of the tournament.
Eventually, picking Shardul Thakur turned out to be a good move for the Lucknow Super Giants, as he displayed some brilliant bowling performances.
