Former Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan has found himself in new controversy. The 37-year-old has been issued with an arrest warrant by a court in Dhaka on Sunday. It comes as a huge blow for him as he has been banned from bowling due to questionable action. Shakib also wanted to retire in front of his home fans, which didn’t come to fruition.

According to reports, few of the checks issued by the veteran cricketer to IFIC Bank had bounced. Mohammed Shahibur Rahman, who has filed the case on behalf of the bank, spoke to the media and said, “The court has previously summoned Shakib but he did not appear at the court. Now, the court has issued the warrant.”

Bangladesh’s former skipper hasn’t been back home since former PM Sheikh Hasina’s government was brought down. The 37-year-old had won elections early in 2024 while contesting from the Awami League.

Troubles keep mounting for Shakib Al Hasan

The former Bangladesh skipper last played international cricket during the tour of India. It was believed that the veteran will be included in the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament. Shakib saw his bowling action being questioned after the umpires had found his action to be questionable during the 2024 County season.

The former Bangladeshi recently failed a bowling test that was conducted in Chennai for a second time. This prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to release a statement which read, “Consequently, the player's existing suspension from bowling in international cricket following the initial independent assessment at the testing centre of Loughborough University in the UK also remains in place.”

The statement also read, “While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he is eligible to continue playing as a batsman in all forms of domestic and international cricket." Shakib has played 247 ODI matches and scored 7570 runs with nine centuries and 56 fifties. His average is 37.29 with a best score of 134 not out.

With the ball, the former skipper has picked 317 wickets with a best of 5/29, which is one of the four times he has taken a fifer. Shakib’s last ODI match for Bangladesh was against Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup, which is famous for Angelo Mathews being given ‘Timed Out’ to create controversy.
