Apart from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played with the Rising Pune Supergiants for two seasons of the IPL. He was the captain of RPS in the first season but was sacked after failing to get good results.
Sanjiv Goenka was the co-owner of RPS at that time, and now he's the co-owner of Lucknow Super Giants. Ironically, Goenka was the one who removed Dhoni from captaincy, but years later, he heaped praise on the former player for his brilliant leadership skills.
"I've never seen a leader like MS Dhoni. It's crazy how even to this day he keeps reinventing himself. Just look at Pathirana, a baby bowler. Don't know where MS saw him and now groomed him into a lethal match winner," said Sanjiv Goenka.
Dhoni is one of the best captains in the history of the game. He has won three ICC trophies, five IPL trophies, and one Champions League trophy. The former player has produced many talented cricketers in recent times who have evolved to be the best. Dhoni is currently playing for CSK, and this might be the last year of his cricket journey. The former CSK captain would like to enjoy the game for a while before bidding farewell.
Dhoni went on to have a conversation with him for half an hour: Sanjiv Goenka
Sanjiv Goenka further spoke about how MS Dhoni spends time with Matheesha Pathirana and helps him figure things out carefully. The dedication he has shown for the young bowler is commendable, and this concern should be there in every captain who wants to groom talented players under them.
"Dhoni went on to have a conversation with him for half an hour. This human quality with a kid where he spent so much time for a kid. It makes you learn how to speak with others, and that is why he is Dhoni. Whenever he plays against Lucknow, the entire stadium is filled with yellow to support him," added Goenka.
