The top-order batters of Team India in red-ball cricket have shown a disappointing performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy matches. Playing for Mumbai, Yashavi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma were dismissed for five and three runs, respectively against Jammu & Kashmir. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, who was playing for Punjab, was dismissed for just four runs. The main aim of the BCCI to send these players to domestic tournaments was to give them match practice.
However, they chose to throw away their wickets rather than settling down and facing the bowlers. Mumbai's skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping for a better performance from the star batters. Much to everyone's surprise, Jaiswal went back to the pavilion in the third over of the game. Following him, Rohit was dismissed in the sixth over.
Similarly, Punjab's captain Gill was dismissed in the fourth over against Karnataka, leaving the viewers in dismay. They still have another innings left to score well in the domestic game because they'll have to return for the ODI series against England, starting on February 6.
Young Team India beat England in the first T20I game in Kolkata
The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team won the first T20I game against England by seven wickets. Varun Chakaravarthy's magnificent performance helped the hosts clinch victory. Suryakumar mentioned clearly that they picked up three spinners in order to stick to their strengths. It was a clever decision by the Indian captain, while England went in with just two spinners. Abhishek Sharma also scored a blistering half-century in the game.
"Hardik took the responsibility of bowling with the new ball. All the bowlers having their own plans, executing that, having good energy on the ground and the way we batted was the icing on the cake. (On picking three spinners) We wanted to stick to our strengths, we did the same thing when we played in South Africa," said Suryakumar Yadav at the presentation.
