The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) handed over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma in 2022 after Virat Kohli resigned from the position after having a successful career. Under Kohli's captaincy, the Indian team has won numerous Test series, especially in the SENA countries. Everybody remembers the Gabba Test match and the Test series in England. However, after Rohit Sharma became the captain, the Test team's standards decreased immensely.

This year, India suffered a huge loss as they went on to lose the Test series against New Zealand. The loss will affect their qualification scenarios for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 finals. Well, this will be the first time India might fail to qualify because their upcoming assignment is against Australia. The first Test match will be in Perth and as per reports, captain Rohit Sharma is set to miss the game due to personal commitments.

After the loss against New Zealand, Rohit was asked about his chances of exclusion from the first Test, to which he said, "I am not sure at this point about taking part in the Perth Test." The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 is another important series for India, and the selectors will have to bring in a perfect opener for the job. While the Board is eyeing Abhimanyu Easwaran, his performance against Australia A was terrible. Since the squad is already announced, the selectors must be in deep trouble with their strategies.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's declining form - A major concern for India

The Ro-Ko pair and the two most senior players in the current Indian team have failed massively in the series against New Zealand. While the fans are extremely disappointed with the performances, the retirement slogan is trending on social media. It is interesting to note that both players are going through a lean patch and are not in their best form.

In the last 10 innings, Kohli has scored 190 runs while Rohit has scored 133 runs. The main issue here is the players' form with the upcoming BGT series in line. If two of the most senior players fail to perform in the foreign land, the pressure will fall on the youngsters. Hence, the Board will have to look into this matter and meet the players before they leave for Australia.
