Indian skipper Rohit Sharma hasn’t given out much when addressing the media ahead of the first ODI versus Sri Lanka. The 37-year-old was asked who would be the wicketkeeper for the game as both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are in the squad.

KL Rahul was the wicketkeeper for India when Rishabh Pant wasn’t part of the team. The 32-year-old was the man who donned the gloves during India’s ODI World Cup campaign last year.

Speaking to the media as quoted by Revsportz, Rohit Sharma said, “It's difficult to choose between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Both are match-winners in their own way. But it's a happy problem and I want to have that kind of problems. We will decide tomorrow.”

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant return to ODI format

The last time KL Rahul played an ODI game for India was during the tour of South Africa. He was the captain of the side that won the series. Since then, his only game in the Indian colours was the first Test versus England at Hyderabad after which he got injured.

Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, last played an ODI game in 2022 during the tour of New Zealand. The 26-year-old will be itching to get back to a format where he has played 30 matches and scored 865 runs with one century and five fifties.

Sri Lanka has been dealt with two major blows as they have lost Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka for the series. They have been replaced by pacer Mohammed Shiraz and batter Eshan Malinga.

Rohit Sharma, during his chat with the media, spoke about new Indian coach Gautam Gambhir. According to a quote carried by Insidesport, which read, “Gautam Gambhir has played a lot of cricket. He worked for franchises before coming to the Indian team. We played a bit of cricket together. Every new coaching set-up brings on something different."

The Indian skipper also said, “Gauti bhai is a very cheerful person in the dressing room. We shouldn’t try to get into his personal life, whether he wants to smile more or not. It’s going to be different with Gautam like it was different with Dravid and Ravi Shastri before him.”
