Meanwhile, there are a lot of speculations and a lot of discussions or rumours around the future of India skipper and batting stalwart Rohit Sharma after the conclusion of the Champions Trophy 2025 final. Notably, Rohit is leading the team in the final of the fourth ICC tournament in just the last two years since the WTC 2023 Final.

Amidst all the ‘retirement’ rumours and speculations surrounding Rohit Sharma, his deputy in Team India and opening partner, Shubman Gill came up with a ‘shut down’ statement on this entire discussion.

“All our discussions have been about the final” – Shubman Gill

Young India batter Shubman Gill categorically spoke about what Rohit Sharma is thinking about approaching for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand.

“All our discussions have been about winning the final and the title. The team and I have not been told anything about this decision,” said Shubman Gill to journalists during a press conference ahead of the big final game against New Zealand.

“Rohit Bhai would not be thinking about it at the moment. I think once the match ends tomorrow, he will make a decision. There is no talk about it within the setup,” he added later.

Gill’’s statement has put a full stop on the news and media reports that were claiming the retirement of Rohit Sharma if India lose the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand. This debate is also being linked with the decision of ‘retirement’ taken by Rohit Sharma and the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli after India clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title in West Indies.
