Former Indian star Robin Uthappa has paid lavish praise to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. The 38-year-old while speaking on Sony Sports Network said the two Indian openers remind him of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. The two Indian stalwarts were known to be the best opening pair of their generation. 

Speaking on Sony Sports, the former India star said “I do see them, when I look at them they remind me of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar going out together, where their games kind of complimented each other. Their strategies complimented each other, that’s what I see when I see these two go out to bat together,” said Uthappa on Sony Sports Network” 

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have clicked instantly and have been playing attacking cricket at the top of the order. The duo have already been part of a ten-wicket win during the recent tour of Zimbabwe. 

Robin Uthappa wants Yashasvi Jaiswal to play ODI cricket 

Former Indian opener Robin Uthappa has expressed his desire to see Yashasvi Jaiswal play for India in the ODI format. The 22-year-old has played Test and T20I cricket so far and is yet to debut in the 50-over format. 

“I honestly feel when Jaiswal gets that opportunity in ODI cricket, he will seal that spot so quickly because after Test cricket and T20I cricket, ODI cricket is going to be so much easier for him. Because he will feel like I have all the time in the world to be able to score runs” said Uthappa while speaking to Sony Sports. 

India completed a comprehensive series win over Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The game ended in a tie as the Indian bowlers yet again triggered a batting collapse. Washington Sundar then picked two wickets in the super over to bowl out Sri Lanka for two runs. 

Suryakumar Yadav hit the winning runs to help India win the series 3-0. The Indian skipper was given the player of the series after his exploits with the bat and ball. Washington Sundar on the other hand was adjudged the player of the match.
