'Ready for their home World Cup' - Fans react as West Indies beat Australia by 35 runs in high-scoring warm-up game ahead of T20 WC 24

West Indies outplayed the Aussies in the high-scoring fixture, defeating them by 35 runs ahead of the main round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The hosts West Indies took on the 2021 World T20 Champions Australia in the warm-up game ahead of the main round of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Both teams played this warm-up fixture at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. Australia won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first.

Batting first, the Caribbean boys smashed the Aussies in all corners of the ground and posted a big total of 257 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Star wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran smashed 75 runs off just 25 balls, hitting 5 sixes and massive sixes. Besides him, skipper Rovman Powell also smashed 52 runs off just 25 balls, with 4 fours and 4 sixes.

In the middle-order, the swashbuckling batter Sherfane Rutherford also played a fiery knock of 47 runs off just 18 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes. Earlier in the top order, opener Johnson Charles also scored 40 runs off 31 balls, with 6 sixes.

Adam Zampa scalped 2 wickets for Australia, alongside one wicket each picked by Tim David and Ashton Agar.

Australia fell short of the target despite valiant efforts

While chasing the target, Australia fell 36 runs short of the target and lost the match by 35 runs, scoring 222 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Josh Inglis was the only one to score a half-century for the Aussies, scoring 55 runs off 30 balls, with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Besides him, Ashton Agar and Nathan Ellis also played the knocks of 28 and 39 runs, respectively, alongside 25 runs each scored by Matthew Wade and Tim David.

Eventually, the Caribbean side won this high-scoring warm-up game by 35 runs to gear up their preparations ahead of the main round. The cricket fans also came up with a lot of interesting reactions after West Indies outplayed Australia in the warm-up fixture before the main round.
