The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will continue on May 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with a thrilling matchup between bitter rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Nevertheless, serious doubts have been raised over whether the much-awaited match would go as scheduled, or at least without any disruptions, due to Bengaluru's ongoing rains.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium is renowned for having one of the best drainage systems in India, but continuous downpours may rob cricket fans of their long-awaited return to IPL 2025. A week has passed since the competition was halted because of military concerns between India and Pakistan. The suspension came after a shocking mid-game cancellation of the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals game in Dharamsala due to an airstrike warning in the area. According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved the resumption of the event as conditions are now calm.

According to AccuWeather, rain is predicted to pour in Bengaluru on May 17, with temperatures between 21 and 30 degrees Celsius. Heavy thunderstorms are highly likely to occur in the afternoon and evening, raising concerns about an uninterrupted game. Even though it will be about 31 degrees throughout the day, it will drop as low as 22 degrees in the evening.
RCB vs KKR gets washout
If rain pours down continuously and the match gets washed out, points are shared by both teams. RCB will have 17 points from 12 games. They would still be in a good position to qualify, but they will be under more pressure to win their remaining games against the Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Securing the extra chance to make it to the final depends on finishing in the top two. However, KKR would suffer greatly if the game gets washed out. Without a win, they would mathematically be eliminated from the playoff race, currently lying sixth in the table with 11 points from 12 games.
