Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin (Source: X)
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been one of the best spin pairs India could have ever asked for. They create a perfect balance from both ends, dominating the batters.
For the upcoming first Test match against Australia, Indian management will have a huge dilemma before deciding on the squad because they will have to choose one player from among the two legends. The first game is in Perth, and the requirement of two spinners is quite low. India will have to play four seamers to attack the Australian batters.
If we look at the stats of both Ashwin and Jadeja in the Australian conditions, Ashwin has claimed 39 wickets from 10 Tests with an economy rate of 2.93, while Jadeja has an incredible record against Australia which includes 14 wickets from four matches at an economy rate of 2.33, averaging 21.78.
However, Australia will go with Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, and Alex Carey in their playing XI, and against them, Ashwin is a beast. He troubles the left-handers very easily and they are certainly some of the most dangerous batters in the team. Also, Ashwin has the most amount of experience in the team, which will come in handy.
Jadeja, on the other hand, can have a tough time against the left-handers who can attack him easily. Also, Ashwin can also provide some runs with the bat as well at crunch situations. Hence, it will be wise for the management to pick Ashwin over Jadeja, considering his stats and experience.
We will take a call on the morning of the test: Morne Morkel
Amidst the Jadeja and Ashwin dilemma, bowling coach Morne Morkel has shed light on the situation of Shubman Gill, who sustained a finger injury during the simulation game. The management hasn't left him out of contention yet, which is good news considering the player's current form. He was outstanding against New Zealand and can be crucial against Australia as well.
"Virat Kohli's intensity and professionalism is top. For youngsters to witness that, it'll take their game to a different level. On Shubman Gill, he is improving on a day-by-day basis. We will take a call on the morning of the test. He played well in the match simulation in the build-up. So fingers crossed," said Morne Morkel during a presser.
