Indian pace ace Arshdeep Singh was the man to go under the hammer during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auctions. The bidding began with Chennai Super Kings making their first move. Delhi Capitals soon joined as Chennai Super Kings pulled out from the race.
Gujarat Titans joined the race with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals following suit. The 25-year-old pacer had a base price of INR 2 Crores as the bidding went past INR 12 Crores. It seemed as if the bid was settling down before Sunrisers Hyderabad came into the picture.
Sunrisers Hyderabad seemed to have won the bid for the left-arm pacer. This is when Punjab Kings waved the baton and used their Right-to-Match card. This is when Kavya Maran raised the bid to INR 18 crores. Punjab Kings had no other choice but to match the bid and take India’s pace ace back to Mohali.
Arshdeep Singh heads back to Punjab in blockbuster deal
The 25-year-old left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was released by Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions. It was very predictable that Punjab will use the RTM card for a player who has become an huge part of the Indian T20I side.
Arshdeep Singh made his IPL debut for Punjab in 2019 against Rajasthan Royals where he got two wickets. His scalps that day included Jos Buttler and Ajinkya Rahane as the youngster gave away 43 runs from his 4 overs.
The next few years saw Arshdeep start to make his presence felt in the team. The left-arm pacer picked 5/32 during the IPL 2021 game against Rajasthan Royals. Punjab went onto lose the game by 2 runs. Arshdeep got the wickets of Evin Lewis, Liam Livingstone, Mahipal Lomror before dismissing Chetan Sakariya and Kartik Tyagi.
Arshdeep Singh picked 19 wickets for Punjab during the 2024 season with a best of 4/29. It wasn’t enough as Punjab failed to make it to the playoff stages. The 25-year-old has picked 76 wickets in the IPL from 65 matches. The return to his home turf will give Arshdeep extra boost to help his side win the title.
