Prithvi Shaw set to quit Mumbai? 25-year-old seeks move away from domestic giants

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has given a written request to quit Mumbai ahead of the new season. Shaw, was dropped during the last season domestic season for poor fitness.

Out of favor Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has written a letter seeking Mumbai Cricket Association’s blessing for a move away. Shaw’s last first-class appearance came against Maharashtra November last year. In that game Shaw scored one and 39 not out as Mumbai won the encounter with nine wickets in hand. The right-handed batter also played the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which Mumbai went onto win.

2024 season was tough for the young batter who was dropped from Mumbai’s side owing to poor fitness. This was also coupled with Delhi Capitals releasing him ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions and Shaw failing to find any buyers ahead of the new season. Prithvi Shaw was counted as one of the best young talents in the country and was compared to Sachin Tendulkar at one stage. 

He led India Under-19 to the World Cup title in 2018 beating Australia in the finals. India soon gave Shaw his Test cap where he scored a century in his very first innings against the West Indies in 2018 at Rajkot. Shaw has so far played five Test, six ODI’s and one T20I game for India with his last international outing coming in 2021. 

Prithvi Shaw sets sights on move away from Mumbai 

Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Halap was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying “Yes, Prithvi Shaw has written a letter to us, seeking a No-Objection Certificate. We are just discussing it with the Apex Council members. We will make our decision by today evening”

The youngster in his letter to the MCA as revealed by ESPN Cricinfo had written “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the valuable opportunities and unwavering support extended to me during my time representing the association,"

The 25-year-old also added “"It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here. At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me

a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season."
