According to reports doing the rounds, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has accepted the Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025. The move comes as a relief after weeks of back and forth due to India’s reluctance to tour Pakistan. The reports further state that PCB has made four demands to BCCI and ICC.
One of the first demands made by PCB to both BCCI and ICC is that they won't play any game held in India. it is to be noted that T20 World Cup 2026, Champions Trophy 2029, and ODI World Cup 2031 are set to be hosted in India. The second demand is financial compensation for all the matches moved out of Pakistan for the coming event.
In an act of desperation, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also asked the Indian Cricket Board and ICC to hold a tri-series.
As per PCB, the two teams to take part in the event will be India and Pakistan with a third side. The proposed tournament is to raise money for PCB and the final proposal is to keep both India and Pakistan in different groups in Champions Trophy 2025.
Unrealistic demands by PCB set to be rejected
It is believed that none of the four proposals made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are set to be accepted. The belief is that the said proposals are nothing but face-saving exercises to compensate for India not touring Pakistan. Team India will now play all their games in the United Arab Emirates during Champions Trophy 2025.
Telegraph India on Wednesday put out a report regarding Pakistan asking for a Hybrid Model for matches held in India. The report in the Telegraph read, “BCCI has sent a clear message to the ICC brass in this regard leading to a fresh impasse. The BCCI's contention is simple - there is no security threat in India and hence no question of accepting such an arrangement. It is understood that all relevant parties are working towards finding an amicable solution to end the crisis and the ICC board will reconvene in the next few days."
Former Pakistan bowler Shoaib Akhtar has made a surprising claim about Indian stars ‘Dying’ to play in Pakistan. The 48-year-old said, “India is dying more than Pakistan to play in Pakistan. Virat Kohli would probably be dying to play in Pakistan. I know what is happening. If India vs Pakistan lands, TV rights sponsorships are going to hit the roof. Let me tell you they are not coming because of the government.”
