Five time IPL winners Mumbai Indians have retained the core of their main team ahead of IPL 2025 season. It was confirmed that Mumbai Indians will retain Hardik Pandya as the skipper of the side. Former skipper Rohit Sharma has been retained along with current India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Leading pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah was the highest-paid player after retention. The men in blue and gold also retained, young batting sensation Tilak Varma. The likes of Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, and Nehal Wadhera were released from the team. Naman Dhir who was rumored to be retained as an uncapped player also parted ways with the franchise.

Hardik Pandya took to his social media handle and posted a short video from the previous season. The video also had the likes of Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. The 31-year-old wrote “We've won so much together, but our story doesn't end here. So much more to achieve, to win, to conquer, together As #ONEFAMILY”
Mumbai Indians retain its belief in the Indian core
The moment that the Mumbai Indians fans had been waiting for was finally here. Rohit Sharma will continue to be a Mumbai Indians player for the IPL 2025 season. There were reports that India’s ODI and Test skipper was ready to part ways with the team. The 37-year-old was retained for INR 16.30 Crores on Thursday.
Both Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are being paid INR 16.35 Crores for the coming season. Mahela Jayawardene while speaking to JIO Cinema confirmed that Hardik will be the skipper of the side for the 2025 season. Many reports claimed that Pandya might be stripped off the captaincy after leading Mumbai to tenth in the table last year.
Jasprit Bumrah has been retained for INR 18 crores with Tilak Varma being retained for INR 8 Crores. The move to make Bumrah the highest-paid player was on expected lines. The 30-year-old has been one of the best performers for the five-time winners and is a huge part of the core group. Mumbai Indians have exhausted INR 75 Crores leaving them with just 45 crores in their kitty for the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
