Ian Botham shared a traumatic experience while he went fishing with Merv Hughes recently. Beefy Botham was saved by the former Australian pacer after falling into the Moyle River in Northern Australia. The star All-rounder took to Instagram and shared how grateful he was to have a friend like Hughes who saved him from the tragic incident.

Back in his playing days, Beefy had a beef with Merv. It is very strange to note that Ian Botham has made friends with whom he had rough moments on the field. Botham shared images of him being in the costumes for fishing. While he enjoyed his time catching big fishes, Botham shared the scary incident.

Botham claimed that he was out of the water quicker than he went inside it. He claimed that a few sets of eyes were having a look at him. He claimed to have had no time to think about what was inside the water. He thanked everyone who helped him to survive the accident and claimed to be alright.

"I was out of the water quicker than I went in it. Quite a few sets of eyes were having a peep at me. Luckily I had no time to think about what was in the water. The guys were brilliant, it was just one of those accidents. It was all very quick, and I’m OK now," wrote former England cricketer on Instagram.

Back in time, Botham was one of the best all-rounders in the world. In the Ashes, he had some heated rivalry with Merv Hughes. Outside the field, they became great friends. The duo had been to Moyle River for fishing where Ian slipped into the river.

Botham was a part of the English team that won both home and away Ashes. He played a key role in England's massive turnaround in the Ashes 1981 where he delivered one of the greatest performances for a player in a single series. To date, he is regarded as one of the greatest match-winners in Tests.
