Yograj Singh statement on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli (Photograph: X)
Former Indian cricket player Yograj Singh has lauded iconic duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their recent performances. While Virat was the second highest run-getter for India in the recently held Champions Trophy, Rohit was the top scorer in the finals. The Men in Blue won their third Champions Trophy title by beating New Zealand on Sunday.
In his chat with leading news agency ANI, Yograj said, “The best thing is that Rohit Sharma said he is not retiring. Well done, my son. Nobody can retire Rohit and Virat. They should think about retirement after winning the 2027 ODI World Cup. I had said this before India would win.”
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma in his chat with JioHotstar has said that he wants to take one step at a time as far as the next ODI World Cup goes. The 37-year-old said, “Right now, I am taking things as they come. It wouldn’t be fair for me to think too far ahead. At this moment, my focus is on playing well and maintaining the right mindset. I don’t want to draw any lines and say whether I will or won’t play in the 2027 World Cup. There’s no point in making such statements right now."
Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq challenged BCCI to resume bilateral cricket with Pakistan. Saqlain also said that Team India should play 10 matches in each format against Pakistan to determine the best side between the two. This comment didn’t sit down well with Yograj Singh.
Former India player said, “I read Saqlain's comment. What are you trying to get into? They don't know how to appreciate it. They just speak. So, a lot of mouths were shut. They haven't learned in 78 years. What can I teach them? People who keep berating their players, what can you teach them.”
Yograj Singh also took a swipe at Pakistan cricket and said a second string India side can beat Pakistan. “They should learn how to run a country from India and its government. It feels like India is playing a local team. They should try to play against our 'B' team.”
