Suryakumar Yadav is back in the fold for Mumbai for the big game against Maharashtra on Friday. The defending champions had started their season with a loss to Baroda in their opening game of the season. The game against Maharashtra is a key fixture of the home team that is being played at the Sharad Pawar stadium at Bandra Kurla Complex.

Maharashtra came into the game on the back of their draw to Jammu and Kashmir away from home. Ruturaj Gaikwad and his men were all out for 428 in their 1st innings in reply to the home team’s 519 to lose out on the first innings points.

Siddhesh Lad made way for Suryakumar Yadav while Roston Dias came in for spinner Himanshu Singh. In the end, it was Mumbai bowlers who had the last laugh as they made use of the conditions to bowl out Maharashtra for 126. The decision to bat first by Ruturaj Gaikwad came back to bite him as his team could face just 31.2 overs.

Shardul Thakur struck for Mumbai in the first over of the game to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad for a duck. The 27-year-old was caught by Ayush Mhatre before Sachin Dhas was out LBW in the very next ball. veteran Ankit Bawne survived the hat trick ball and scored 17 off 17 balls with 4 boundaries.

Mohit Avasthi got Mumbai the next two wickets dismissing Siddesh Veer for 11 and Bawne for 17. Royston Dias used good swing and movement to grab two wickets of Satyajeet Bachav for 8 and top scorer Nikhil Naik for 38. Maharashtra’s wicketkeeper scored his runs off 32 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Azim Kazi was not out on 36 off 79 balls as Shams Mulani picked the final 3 wickets. Mumbai came out to bat with aggressive intent as they reached 14/0 from 2 overs at the time of writing. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shreyas Iyer are also playing the game. It is a huge game for some of the senior members of Mumbai as they look to stake their claim in the national setup.
