Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to face a stern test at home when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday night. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game between the two sides is a chance for one team to keep their hopes alive, while the other could become the first side to get eliminated from the campaign. Skipper MS Dhoni lost the toss and was asked to bat first by SRH skipper Pat Cummins.
MS Dhoni made a curious comment during the toss where he made his feelings clear about the pitch. CSK skipper was asked about the playing surface, to which he said, “We are not too sure how the wicket is. The groundsmen are trying their level best. I feel the old red soil wicket was a good one, the one before 2010 Champions League."
In this season, CSK have lost their home games against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals. While RCB registered their first win in Chepauk since 2008, Delhi Capitals ended their 15-year wait to win at this venue. Rachin Ravindra and Vijay Shankar were dropped for this game as Dewald Brevis made his CSK debut. Deepak Hooda, who had played in the first few games of the season, made his comeback to the side.
Mohammed Shami returns for SRH
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami wasn’t part of the Hyderabad side in the previous game against the Mumbai Indians. Abhinav Manohar came in as the impact player and batted well to add 99 runs for the sixth wicket with Heinrich Klaasen. The 34-year-old hasn’t been in the best of form with the ball so far this campaign.
Speaking at the toss, Pat Cummins said, “Chennai is always a big game, coming off a couple of losses, but it is a new venue and the boys are up for it. If the wicket is good, backing them to get a big total and otherwise also backing them to do well.” Focus will be on SRH’s bowlers, who have had a lean time in the last few games.
Ayush Mhatre will get to play his first home game after his brilliant debut against MI on Sunday night. The 17-year-old scored 32 off just 14 balls to show the world his immense talents with the bat. MS Dhoni and the rest of the Chennai Super Kings will be hoping for a win and then get on a winning run in a bid to salvage their season.
