Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana scored a terrific century during the final ODI game of the series against Australia. The left-handed batter scored 105 runs from 109 balls with 14 hits to the fence and a six. The knock wasn’t enough, as the visitors lost the game by 83 runs to register a 3-0 loss in the series.

During the course of her valiant century, the left-handed batter reached a milestone that wasn’t achieved before. Smriti Mandhana became the first ever women’s cricket star to register four ODI centuries in a single calendar year. 

Despite some huge stars still playing the game, Smriti Mandhana’s efforts have put Indian women’s cricket on the map. Mandhana has already had a great year in the fifty-over format and achieved many records. She is also the highest century maker for India in the WODI format.

Former Australian batting legend Belinda Clark was one of the best players in the world in her time. Clark played a total of 118 ODI games and scored 4844 runs with 5 centuries and 30 fifties with an average of 47. In 1997, Belinda Clarke took the world by storm by scoring three ODI centuries in a single year. Her first tonne came against Pakistan at home in Melbourne, where Clark scored 131 runs. Australia scored 397 runs and bowled out Pakistan for just 23. The Aussie star then smashed 142 against New Zealand before scoring an unbeaten 229 against Denmark during the World Cup that year. 

2- Meg Lanning—Australia—3 Centuries (2016)

Yet another Australian batter who has taken the cricket world by storm with her batting was Meg Lanning. The right-arm batter played 103 matches and scored 4602 runs with 15 centuries and 21 fifties. Three of those centuries came during the 2016 season, where Lanning showed her class. Two centuries came in successive matches against New Zealand with scores of 114 not out and 127 in Mount Manganui. Her final century was against South Africa, where Lanning scored 134 in Canberra.

India’s star batter Smriti Mandhana has made 2024 her own with four centuries in a single season. This makes her the 1st ever women’s cricket star to achieve such a feat. The left-handed batter scored successive centuries in the ODI series at home against South Africa earlier this year. Mandhana scored 117, 136, and 90 in the three games in Bengaluru. Her third century came against New Zealand in Ahmedabad before scoring her 4th tonne against Australia in Perth.
