Mohammed Shami's participation in BGT is in question after getting ruled out of first two rounds of Ranji Trophy 2024-25

India's lethal pace bowler, Mohammed Shami, is set to miss the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He is still recovering from the ankle injury he suffered during the ODI World Cup 2023. The Bengal Cricket Association announced the squad for the two rounds, where Shami was excluded from the list. However, Wriddhiman Saha is set to feature in the Ranji Trophy 2024. 

There are some prominent names in the squad, like Akash Deep, Shahbaz Ahmed, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Mukesh Kumar. Moreover, Anustup Majumdar will lead the team ahead of the tournament. Easwaran will walk into the tournament with a lot of confidence as he scored 191 runs against Mumbai in the recently ended Irani Cup 2024. The 90th edition of the Ranji Trophy will be thrilling and exciting to watch as all the star players will come together to play the tournament after a gap of almost a year.

Is Mohammed Shami's BGT participation in doubt?

After being sidelined from the Ranji Trophy squad of Bengal, the real question arises whether Mohammed Shami will be part of the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Recently, he slammed the rumours of his exclusion from the series and said that neither he nor the Board had decided anything regarding that. He is still recovering from the injury, and there are chances of him returning for the BGT since it's almost one month away from now. 

However, in an unfortunate case, if he misses out on the series due to the injury, the Board will have to be ready with his replacement. There are players like Mayank Yadav and Prasidh Krishna who are talented and can play well in overseas conditions. Nevertheless, Shami is a prolific bowler, and finding his replacement is extremely difficult.
