Mohammed Shami has made a solid comeback in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 after being away from cricket for more than a year due to injury. Shami suffered from an ankle injury during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, and post that, he went for surgery. The recovery process took a lot of time, which is why he wasn't included in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad.
Shami was wicketless in the game against Madhya Pradesh on the first day. He bowled for ten overs, conceding 34 runs, and a maiden. But on the second day, early in the morning, as the ball started to swing, Shami bowled some brilliant overs, claiming four wickets. He was outstanding throughout the spell and helped Bengal bowl out MP on 167 runs. Suraj Jaiswal and Mohammad Kaif took two magnificent wickets for Bengal. Now, Bengal has taken the lead by 61 runs and will return to the field after lunch.
Subhranshu Senapati scored 47 runs in 121 balls and Rajat Patidar scored 41 runs in 59 balls. They were the only two batters who crossed the 30-run mark. All the other batters got out cheaply and didn't perform well throughout the innings.
Shahbaz Ahmed plays a terrific knock against MP
In the first innings, Bengal scored 228 runs, but Shahbaz Ahmed was the hero as he played a brilliant knock of 92 runs in just 80 balls. He hit 16 boundaries and one six in his innings, helping Bengal register a respectable score. Captain Anustup Mazumdar scored 44 runs off 69 balls, including six boundaries and one six. The start wasn't good for Bengal, but the middle-order batters did really well in the process.
For MP, Aryan Pandey and Kulwant Khejroliya claimed four wickets each. The bowlers did a good job as they restricted the batters below 250 runs. Now, Bengal will have to put up a huge score on the Board to win the game.
