India's captain, Jasprit Bumrah, missed out on the last day of the fifth Test match because his body wasn't supporting. Bumrah revealed that he was disappointed in missing out on the game where the wicket was excellent for the bowlers, and he would have enjoyed there. On day two, he visited the doctor to get some scans done because of the discomfort he felt after the second spell.
"Little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. Disappointing, probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series. Felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings. The chat was about belief, the other bowlers stepped up in the first innings," said Jasprit Bumrah during the post-match presentation.
Bumrah was the highest wicket-taker of the series with 32 wickets in nine innings. He was just astounding in all the games and made sure India stayed in the competition till the end. However, over-dependency on just one player was the reason behind the visitor's loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. After a decade, the trophy went back to Australia under Pat Cummins' captaincy.
I think there were 15 people really pleased that Bumrah didn’t bowl: Travis Head
Australia's prolific batter, Travis Head, spoke about how happy the Australian dressing room was after seeing Bumrah's unavailability during the last game. He praised the bowler for having a stellar series where he wreaked havoc on the Australian batting attack. It was an unforgettable series for the player, and he would return with one win for the country under his captaincy.
"I think there were 15 people really pleased that Bumrah didn’t bowl today. He’s a great performer, he had an exceptional tour. I’m wrecked, I don’t know what I’m going to do for the next 10 days. I’ll look after myself and get prepared for Sri Lanka," said Travis Head.
