Before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Ishan Kishan faced a lot of criticism regarding his absence from international and domestic cricket, even after receiving several warnings from the Board and the selectors. Until now, Kishan has been silent about everything, irrespective of what happened. While talking to the Indian Express, Kishan finally spoke about how hard the time was for him.

Ishan said, "It was depressing. Today I don't want to say that everything was fine. It was not easy for me at all. You go through a lot. Mere dimag mey ye sab chalta raha ki yaar kya hoga gaya, kyu ho gaya, mere saath kyu (Questions like what happened, why me). All these things happened when I was performing."

After being benched in the entire ODI World Cup 2023, Ishan took a break from cricket due to travel fatigue. It was official, as management agreed to. However, after a few months, he was asked to rejoin the team again or play domestic cricket, which Kishan denied. After that, BCCI removed him from the central contract, and he wasn't included in the team.

I took a break and I think it was normal: Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan further discussed how taking a break should be normalized since mental health is a priority. He wasn't in the right mind frame to play any match, and hence, he skipped the domestic season as well. He was absolutely disappointed by the kind of response he received which eventually broke his heart.

"I took a break and I think it was normal. There is a rule that if you want to make a comeback you must perform in domestic cricket. It is as simple as that. Now, it was very different for me to play domestic cricket as it was not making any sense. I was not in a frame of mind to play and that is why I took a break from international cricket," said Ishan Kishan as quoted by Indian Express.
