Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are likely to lose their best bowler, Mayank Yadav, for the rest of the tournament as he sustained a suspected abdominal muscle tear during the game against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. This is the second time he suffered an injury in a span of one month. As per a BCCI source, his injury makes his playing chances doubtful in the upcoming matches, which is a significant setback for the LSG team.
"Mayank has a tear but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the play-offs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games. But it is like hoping against hope and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games," said a BCCI as quoted by PTI.
Mayank's performance this season has been commendable, as he made a wonderful debut and clinched two back-to-back POTMs. Moreover, he is one of those bowlers who is capable enough of maintaining his line and length along with speed. Mayank has also delivered the fastest ball of the season which was 156.7 kmph in a match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
BCCI Source confirms Mayank Yadav's inclusion in pace bowling contract
This IPL was nothing less than an opportunity for Mayank Yadav as his hard work has finally paid off. The pacer is about to get a pace bowling contract from the BCCI along with other pacers like Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal, and Akash Deep. Post this, he'll be under the direct supervision of NCA's Sports Science and Medical team.
"He will soon be handed a pace bowling contract and once he is in BCCI Pathways structure, his growth will be systematically monitored. The national selection committee and the Indian team management would like to gradually blood him and ensure that he can maintain peak fitness," added the source.
