Lucknow Super Giants came into Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022 along with Gujarat Titans as one of the new teams. KL Rahul who was their first pick led them to the playoff that season. This was followed by yet another playoff appearance for LSG before losing to Mumbai Indians.
IPL 2024 season saw Lucknow miss out on their third successive playoff appearance. The biggest moment of the season was the huge controversy that took place between Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul after the ten-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. This led to the eventual parting of ways between the team and their skipper KL Rahul.
West Indian star Nicholas Pooran was retained for INR 21 Crores and promptly named as the skipper of the side. India’s young spin sensation Ravi Bishnoi was retained for INR 11 Crores with young pace sensation Mayank Yadav being retained for the same amount. Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni who are uncapped players were retained for INR 4 Crores each. This left Lucknow with INR 69 Crores left and also one RTM card to use.
Lucknow Super Giants set Auctions on fire
The biggest news from the first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auctions was the business conducted by Lucknow Super Giants. Rishabh Pant was picked for a massive sum of INR 27 Crores. It was a huge purchase for LSG as they wenty past the INR 26.75 set by Punjab Kings to purchase Shreyas Iyer.
David Miller was added to the mix by LSG to make the batting order even more formidable. Lucknow now have three T20 players in Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, and David Miller to bolster their middle order. South African star Aiden Markram was also picked on the first day to make it an eventful auction for the Lucknow side.
Avesh Khan was back with Lucknow as he was traded last year to Rajasthan Royals for Devdutt Padikkal. The 28-year-old pacer has become a regular for India in the shortest formats of the game. Avesh Khan’s death bowling in particular was lauded by many during the IPL 2024 season. Young uncapped stars like Abdul Samad and Aryan Juyal were also purchased by LSG to round off their day 1 purchases.
On Tuesday the biggest purchase for Lucknow was Indian pacer Akash Deep for INR 8 Crores and all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed who was brought for INR 2.4 Crores. Lucknow also managed to keep hold of West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph using their RTM card for INR 75 Lakhs.
