Ravindra Jadeja has announced his retirement from T20 internationals following India’s historic World Cup triumph. The elite all-rounder followed in the footsteps of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, ending an era for Team India in the shorter format of the game.
India clinched their second T20 World Cup title after defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final in Barbados on Saturday. Both Kohli and Rohit announced their retirement on the same day during their post-match speech, while Jadeja announced his decision on his Instagram handle on Sunday (June 30).

“With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support. Jai hind,” Jadeja wrote.
Jadeja leaves a huge void in all-round and fielding departments
Having made his debut in T20Is against Sri Lanka in 2009, Jadeja has represented the Men in Blue in 74 matches. Batting in the lower order, the left-hander has scored 515 runs at an average of 21.46 and a strike rate of 127.16. The left-arm orthodox bowler has picked up 54 wickets at an economy of 7.13 with a best bowling figure of 3/15.
Jadeja’s first World Cup was in the 2009 edition, where India failed to see the semi-finals after losing all three of their games in the Super 8s. He was an integral part of the team for the next five editions and managed to find success in his final one. However, his performance in the 2024 tournament did not live up to expectations as he failed to deliver the desired results in both departments.
Jadeja has been India's 3D player for years, with exceptional performances in batting, bowling and fielding. He is one of the greatest fielders of all time and it will be difficult for the management to fill that huge void in 20-over cricket.
