Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has asked the selectors to show more faith in Sarfaraz Khan. The 27-year-old finally made his India debut earlier this year and scored a few fifties during the series against England. His maiden ton came during the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand. This has been followed series of failures by the young Mumbai-based batter.

Sourav Ganguly while speaking to Revsportz said, “You have to give him a chance to know. How can you say anything without giving him an opportunity? Let him fail first. He has scored tons of runs in domestic cricket and has earned his spot in the team.  No one has given it to him. So don't write him off before you have given him a chance”

The 53-year-old also added, “Once you do so, then you will be in a position to judge. I am very clear - you must give him an opportunity to know how good or bad he is. Without doing so, don't pass judgment on him.”

The 27-year-old Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the prolific scorers for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy format. This led to his selection to the national side in the Test format and the youngster scored a half-century in his very first innings. His best knock came when he scored 150 versus New Zealand recently in Bengaluru.

Sourav Ganguly also came in support of coach Gautam Gambhir after his war of words with former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting. It is to be noted that both Ganguly and Ponting had shared the dugout during their stint with Delhi Capitals during IPL 2024.

“Let him be. I saw some criticism of what he said in the press conference, but that’s just how he is. When he won the IPL, everyone praised him for the same attitude. Now, because he’s lost a few matches and a series, people are questioning it. But he’s always been straightforward, and that shouldn’t change. He’s a fighter, and he competes hard. Let’s give him time, it’s only been a few months, and judgments are already being passed Australians have always played their cricket that way, so there’s nothing wrong with Gambhir speaking his mind,” said the former India skipper and batting legend.
