The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 is set to start on November 22, and the Indian team is suffering from injuries. Captain Rohit Sharma's involvement in the first Test isn't confirmed yet, as he just had a newborn baby a couple of days ago. Considering all the uncertainties, the management will have to take some tough calls in the upcoming days to make a playing XI, which can compete well against the mighty Aussies.
There are a few contenders who can fill in for Rohit and the injured Gill, who is likely to miss the first Test match due to a finger injury. He suffered from an injury during the intra-squad stimulation match on November 16. This might as well add extra pressure on the players, seeing the uncertainty all around. However, players like KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Abhimanyu Easwaran are the upfront runners in the competition for the first game.
If Rohit and Gill miss out, both KL Rahul and Easwaran might get a chance to play the game. However, who will bat at what spot will remain in suspense until the game begins? Rahul is a flexible player and can jump in any given position, while Easwaran is more of an opener. So, having an experienced player like Easwaran, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, open the innings might be a good call by management. If Gill is ruled out, Rahul might take his place.
All eyes on team India ahead of BGT 2024
Team India are one of the most dangerous sides in world cricket when it comes to red-ball cricket. They have been quite impressive in foreign lands lately and given a tough time to teams like Australia and England on their own home soil. This time, India will look to retain the trophy once again, as they have done in the last four series. Australia are looking for vengeance and wouldn't let the series finish on an easy note for the Indian team.
