Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fast bowler Harshit Rana has been banned for one match in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Rana was found to have breached the code of conduct during the match against Delhi Capitals on Monday (April 29). He will sit out the upcoming match against Mumbai Indians (MI) and will be fined 100 percent of the match fee.

The right-arm pacer was seen trying to give a flying-kiss send-off to the DC batter Abishek Porel. However, he pulled out from the gesture in midway and fans on social media came up with hilarious comments, saying that he got reminded of the punishment from the BCCI.

Notably, the pacer was fined earlier this season for a similar celebration against Sunrisers Hyderabad's Mayank Agarwal. Although the batter did nothing, Rana decided to give him an aggressive send-off after taking his wicket, which prompted the authorities to take strict action.

Rana committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL code of conduct. The rules state that the use of language, actions or gestures that may provoke an aggressive reaction from another player during the match is strictly prohibited. The 22-year-old admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction.

Harshit Rana aids KKR with two wickets in thrashing DC

Shreyas Iyer and Co. got back to the winning ways in IPL 2024 by crushing DC by seven wickets at the Eden Gardens. After being asked to bowl first, the KKR pacers tore through the DC top order. An early damage restricted DC to 153 on a good batting deck.

Harshit Rana took two wickets of Abishek Porel and Rasikh Salam and registered figures of 2/28 in his four overs. The Delhi pacer has taken 11 wickets in eight matches so far and has been a vital cog in the KKR's pace department. His services will be missed when they face two-time champions MI at the Wankhede Stadium on May 3.
