While the rumours are just floating on the internet, an official confirmation is awaited. The deadline for releasing the retention list is October 31st. All franchises will have to submit before the deadline. Recently, the IPL Governing Committee informed the franchises about the rules of the IPL mega auction, including the retention policy.
IPL 2025 mega auction policies decoded
The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Committee has announced the retention policies along with the mega action rules for the franchise owners for a better understanding. As per the rules, the total purse for all the franchises will be INR 120 crores. If they are eyeing retaining five players, a total of INR 75 crores will be spent from the purse, and the rest of the amount can be used in the mega auction.

Moreover, if the franchises decide to retain just three players, a total of INR 43 crores will be deducted from the purse. However, if they choose to retain four players, a total of INR 75 crores will be cut from the purse. Hence, the owners will have to manage their purse value quite efficiently while considering the players and their value in the auction. Apart from this, a total of five retentions can be made, including an uncapped player. Overseas players will be banned if they miss the IPL for any reason after being picked up by a team in the auction.
