Kolkata Knight Riders won the 51st game of IPL 2024 as they defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai on May 3. Notably, KKR comfortably placed themselves in the top four positions in the points table, while the Mumbai Indians are knocked out of the playoff race after losing today's battle against KKR.

Speaking about the game here, it was the Mumbai Indians skipper who won the toss and invited KKR to bat first in the game. Notably, after being sent to bat first, the KKR side posted 169 runs before being bowled out in the game. The side had an awful start as Phil Salt departed for just 5 runs while Sunil Narine made 8 runs. Besides them, Raghuvanshi also departed for 13 runs, while skipper Shreyas Iyer was out for 6 runs.

However, it was Venkatesh Iyer who made 70 runs from 52 balls, featuring six fours and three boundaries, with a solid strike rate of 135 to post some runs. Star batter Rinku Singh also made just nine runs; however, Manish Pandey batted wonderfully as he made 42 runs from 31 balls to help his side post a decent total on the board.

We couldn’t form partnerships and kept losing wickets: Hardik Pandya

However, during the chase, MI once again had poor batting as Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma failed with the bat and received early dismissals. However, Suryakumar Yadav also departed for 56 runs from 35 balls, featuring six fours and two sixes, and aside from that, no other batter could stand up, making them lose the game by 24 runs.

" I mean obviously in the batting inning, we couldn’t form partnerships and kept losing wickets, in T20s if you don’t form partnerships, it will cost you. Not much, there are a lot of questions that will take some time to answer but for now, not much to say. As you mentioned, the bowlers did a fantastic job, the wicket got a little better after the first innings, and the dew came on," MI skipper Hardik Pandya said after the loss.
