Lead Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah gave India a massive fright during the second day of the Adelaide Test. The 31-year-old went down in a heap as the Indian team’s medical team came out to tend to him. After a brief pause in play, Bumrah was back on his feet as he continued the rest of over but was seen bowling slower than usual.
Injury to Bumrah at this stage of the tour could be a massive blow for India. Mohammed Shami not being part of the side puts all the onus on the 31-year-old. Bumrah, so far, has been the best bowler across the series with over 10 wickets from just 3 innings.
Earlier in the session, Travis Head struck the fastest Test century in Pink Ball games off just 111 balls. This was enough to give Australia the much-needed impetus on the second day of the game. Mitchell Starc's 6/48 meant that India were bowled out for 180 in the first innings of the game.
Former Pakistan player compares Bumrah to Wasim Akram
Basit Ali, who has played a handful of games for Pakistan, compared India’s lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah to pace legend Wasim Akram. Taking to his YouTube Channel, Basit Ali said, “Australia are focusing on Bumrah. They won't take a chance against him. Maine agar Wasim Akram ke baad Australians ko kisi bowler se ghabraate hue dekha hai, toh woh Bumrah hai.”
Harsha Bhogle was speaking to former Australian legend Glenn McGrath and asked, “What aspect do you love the most about Bumrah?” to which McGrath replied, “He is just so unique with his bowling action, isn’t he? The way he runs up. It’s not something you’d teach young bowlers to do. But he has found a way.”
The former Aussie star also said, “He ambles in, and then the last two steps, just powers through the crease, bowls in such great areas. He is quite hypermobile in his joints and sort of got a great wrist and very good control. The ball moves both ways making him a complete package.”
