Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have appointed Jason Gillespie as the new white ball coach of the national side. The news came after Gary Kirsten had stepped down as the coach of the white-ball team. According to reports, the South African legend wasn’t happy with PCB after selection powers had been stripped.

Even current Test coach Jason Gillespie was slated to be unhappy with the move exercised by PCB. The former Australian pacer was at the helm when Pakistan overturned 1-0 deficit to beat England at home. Gillespie’s first assignment will be familiar territory as Pakistan tour Australia for three ODI and T20I matches.

After the tour of Australia, the men in green will be playing Zimbabwe away from home. Babar Azam is part of the team for the tour Down Under but has been excluded for the Zimbabwe tour. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah will also miss the Zimbabwe tour after the squads were named on Sunday. Mohammad Rizwan is the captain for both tours with Salman Ali Agha set to be his deputy.

Mohsin Naqvi makes massive statement on Babar Azam’s resignation

Just a few days before the start of the Pakistan versus England Test series, Babar Azam stepped down as the white-ball captain. The move came after the men in green failed to go past the first round during the T20 World Cup 2024 tournament. Losses to USA and India had hurt Pakistan’s chances to make it to the knock out phases.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi during a chat with the media on Sunday was asked to speak on Babar’s resignation. To which the PCB chief said “Babar humara Pakistan ka ek asset hai. Kafi arse baad is tareh ke bade players aate hai. Usne mujhse raabta kiya aur usne kaha ki Mohsin bhai mai as a captain continue nahi karna chahta”

Mohsin Naqvi also said to the media “Kisi ne usse koi bahut sari baatein beech mein aato nahi thi, lekin main apko bata sakta hoon ki PCB mein se kisi se usse koi na raabta kiya tha ki aapne captaincy chodni hai ya kuch karna hai, uska khud. Usne pehele coaches se aur baki logo se apna mashwara kiya aur fir mujhe kaha ki main as captain continue nahi karna chahta”

“Uska jo bhi faisla tha… Vo apni game par jyada focus karna chahta hai aur hum sabki khwaish hai vo apni form mein wapis aaye aur usi tareh ki performance de jis tareh ki vo pehele deta raha hai” Mohsin Naqvi further stated to the media.
