‘It’s between two individuals’ – Gautam Gambhir clarifies on his equation with Virat Kohli

Indian Cricket coach Gautam Gambhir was asked to comment on his equation with Virat Kohli. The two stars have shared a fractured past with two notable heated exchanges during the IPL. Many fans speculated how the pair would co-exist once Gautam Gambhir was named the new coach of the national side. 

During the press conference on Monday, Gautam Gambhir while replying to a question on Virat Kohli said “Good for the TRP, but my relationship is not public. What kind of a relationship do I share with Virat Kohli... I think it's between two mature individuals. On the field, everyone has got the right to fight for their own jersey and come back to a winning dressing room”

Virat Kohli had earlier assured BCCI that he will put behind all the past differences for the sake of national interest. Both parties have refrained from commenting on their current equation. Gautam Gambhir extended the olive branch during IPL 2024 by hugging Virat Kohli after their clash during IPL 2023. 

Gautam Gambhir speaks on relationship with Virat Kohli 

Speaking to the media, Gautam Gambhir further said “But at the moment, we're representing India, representing 140 crore Indians and I'm sure we're going to be on the same page and try and make India proud. I share a very good relationship off the field and will continue to do that. But yes, to make it more public what kind of a relationship... I think it's between two individuals”

Gautam Gambhir also said that he has communicated with Virat Kohli even after his announcement as the Indian coach. “I've had a lot of chats with him... we've shared messages. It's not important what we discussed, how many chats have I had with him, after my announcement or before my announcement or during the game, after the games. Sometimes, just because we want headlines, it's not important. Right now, the most important thing is we both are going to be working extremely hard to make India proud. And that's our job”

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be joining the team after the T20I series. it was earlier reported that the two veteran batters will want to take a break and miss the three-match ODI series. Rohit Sharma will be leading the side with Shubman Gill being named his deputy. It has been at the insistence of Gautam Gambhir that the two senior batters have made themselves available.
