England has selected Harry Brook, a young batter, to be its new white-ball captain. The team's poor Champions Trophy 2025 performance led to Jos Buttler's resignation. Brook made his England debut against the West Indies in January 2022 and has since played in 26 ODIs and 44 T20Is.

This year, he was chosen to be England's white-ball vice-captain prior to the India trip. He even led his team to victory in the ODI series against Australia in September 2024. However, he took over as captain after a series loss of 2-3. He led the England squad at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2018. Following his appointment as the new captain, the 26-year-old says he is proud to be selected captain.

"It’s a real honour to be named England’s white-ball captain. Ever since I was a kid playing cricket at Burley in Wharfedale, I dreamed of representing Yorkshire, playing for England, and maybe one day leading the team. To now be given that chance means a great deal to me,” said Brook in a media release.

He also praised his family and coaches and stated that he hoped to win significant tournaments for his squad."I want to thank my family and coaches who’ve supported me every step of the way. Their belief in me has made all the difference and I wouldn’t be in this position without them. There’s so much talent in this country, and I’m looking forward to getting started, moving us forward, and working towards winning series, World Cups, and major events,” he added.

Harry Brook withdrew from IPL

Starting on May 29, Brook will compete against the West Indies as England's full-time white-ball captain. The two sides will face off in three ODIs and as many T20Is. In the meanwhile, Brook decided to concentrate on England's domestic season by withdrawing from the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Consequently, the new regulations have banned him from the competition for two years.
