Former Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul spoke about the animated chats incident with owner Sanjiv Goenka in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. While talking to Star Sports, Rahul opened up for the first time about the incident, which looked ugly and unprofessional to the viewers.
The incident took place in May 2024 when LSG were playing a game against SRH where they lost the game and were on a stage where they had to win all the matches to qualify. This loss didn't sit well with the owner and he lashed out on Rahul right after the game on the field.
"As a team, we were all in shock because we were at the stage in that tournament where every game was very important. We had to win, I think, three out of five games or two out of the last four games. When this happened, it was just a big shock for all of us," said Rahul on Star Sports.
This brought in a lot of controversies against the owner as this wasn't the way to treat a captain. Fans came together to extend their support to Rahul. Many former players, too, took a jibe at Sanjiv Goenka for his behavior in front of the world.
I think it did affect the entire group: KL Rahul
LSG owner's behavior wasnt perceived well by the players as well. rahul mentioned that they did give their best in the rest of the matches and were extremely close to qualifying but the entire group wasnt comfortable with the way he was treated. Players showed immense support to their captain and stood by him, trying to perform well and win the games, but the results werent in their favor.
"Whatever happened on the field after the game wasn't the nicest thing to be part of or something that anyone wants to see on the cricket field. I think it did affect the entire group. We still had a chance to make it into the playoffs. We had a chat as a team and tried to regroup, put everything aside, and try to put our best foot forward. We tried our best, but unfortunately, our best wasn't good enough always," he added.
