The England Cricket Board (ECB) introduced a new policy back in November 2024 where the players wouldn't be allowed to play any other T20 leagues except for the Indian Premier League (IPL). This decision wasn't well received by the cricketers who were interested in participating in the Pakistan Premier League (PSL). This decision came to protect England's domestic cricket culture. Despite several conversations with the Board, there was no solution to the problem.
Hence, English cricketer James Vince announced his retirement from domestic cricket and expects others to follow his path. While having a conversation with the ESPN Cricinfo, Vince opened up about how unsatisfied the players were with this decision. PSL is a much shorter tournament than IPL and allows the players to participate in domestic cricket later on.
"That's a big one that has caused a lot of confusion. It's got to be something to do with relationships between the ECB, PCB and BCCI as to why they've come up with that rule. The PSL's a shorter competition, so if you're going to play in that, you're probably missing less domestic cricket than if you're going to the IPL… It just didn't seem right," said Vince.
James Vince moves to Dubai from the UK amidst attacks on family
The English cricketer James Vince moved to Dubai with his family as there were consistent attacks on his family in the United Kingdom. Leaving everything behind, the player decided to move to a safer place. This is one of the main reasons why he does not play domestic cricket. Travelling frequently and the tax in the UK might not allow him to settle down properly. He mentioned that they moved to Dubai in mid-October and have no specific plans for the future yet.
"My wife and the kids are quite excited about the prospect of living over here. We don't really have a timeframe on how long that'll be. If we like it, it could be indefinitely; if, after a couple of years, we feel it's not for us, then I guess we've got the option to move back to the UK. It's a case of taking it step by step and seeing where it leads us," added Vince.
