IPL 2025: Match 34 RCB vs PBKS Photograph: (X)
Veteran Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is set to be the centre of attention when he takes to the field on Friday. The 34-year-old who is part of Punjab Kings (PBKS) is set to take on his former side, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 34 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Yuzvendra Chahal spent eight seasons with RCB, playing 113 games and taking 139 wickets. The right-arm spinner was inexplicably released by RCB at the end of the 2021 season and wasn’t picked in the subsequent auction. Chahal then went to the Rajasthan Royals, where he spent three seasons before moving to the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2025 season.
Former India batter Aakash Chopra has termed this a grudge match for Chahal ahead of the game on Friday. The 47-year-old speaking on his YouTube channel said, “It's a grudge match for Yuzi Chahal - 'You people don't take me only. I went to the Rajasthan Royals first, as you didn't take me. Then I went to Punjab, as you didn't take me again.' He is coming after picking up four wickets in the last match. That actually is outstanding”
IPL 2025 set to see rocking encounter between RCB and PBKS
Match number 34 of IPL 2025 will give both RCB and PBKS a chance to potentially move to top of the table. Both sides would have to win the game with a handsome margin if they have to temporarily dislodge Delhi Capitals and go top of the IPL table.
Bengaluru have eight points from six games with a run rate of (+0.672). PBKS, on the other hand, has played the same number of games and similar points with a run rate of (+0.172). Delhi Capitals are top in the points table with 10 points from six games, with a run rate of (+0.744).
Yuzvendra Chahal did the star turn with the ball for Punjab in their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders. The veteran spinner, who is also the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, bowled four overs and picked four wickets for 28 runs. This helped PBKS defend the lowest ever total in IPL history and beat KKR by 16 runs.
