This Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season has been quite thrilling for the audience. Most of the matches are high-scoring and it seems like the tournament is favouring the batters a bit more than the bowlers. Moreover, the Impact sub-rule allows each team to get the extra player in the middle of the innings. Hence, each team is currently playing with 12 players but only 11 remain on the field during the innings.

The rule is a big disadvantage for all the all-rounders as they either get to bat or ball which decreases their chances of playing in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. This way they are not getting enough time to showcase their real talent as all-rounders. Some players have opposed the idea of the Impact sub-rule and feel like there is nothing left for the bowlers in the game.

Let's discuss the three-star players who opined against the Impact sub-rule:

1. Rohit Sharma

India skipper Rohit Sharma, in a recent interview, talked about the Impact sub-rule and said that it's not fair for players like Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar as they do not get the chance to bowl which might influence their World Cup chances.

"I am not a big fan of Impact sub-rule. It is going to hold all-rounders back, eventually, cricket will be played by 11 players and not 12 players. You are taking out so much from the game to make it entertaining for people around. If you look just from the cricketing aspect of it I feel guys like Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar aren't getting to bowl, which for us is not a good thing," said Rohit.

2. Axar Patel

Axar Patel made his stance clear when he said that the rule only favours the batters and nobody thinks about the bowler anymore which becomes difficult at times. This statement is absolutely true. We can see scores which are as high as 200+ in most matches and the bowlers are thrashed by the batters.

"Whoever is making the rules thinks it will work as per the batter's convenience. It's difficult, there is pressure, but there's an opportunity to do better. If you have the skills, you can use them to your advantage. Everyone gets an extra batter because of the Impact Player rule, so everyone goes bang from the first ball. No one takes time to settle at the crease anymore. That is why I am not a big fan of Impact Player rule, because as an all-rounder, I know that they will either take a proper batter or a bowler, not an all-rounder," said Axar.

3. Mohammed Siraj

Being a bowler, this IPL season has been the toughest for Mohammed Siraj. He has been constantly hit by the batters in almost all the matches, which is not a good sign. The regular high-scoring matches bring down the bowler's confidence which is not a great impact as the T20 World Cup is coming faster than ever.

"Please remove this impact sub thing (laughs), the wickets are already flat and there's nothing for the bowlers in it, previously, it used to be slow at times, but the batters now come out swinging at absolutely everything," said Siraj.
