The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume after being halted for a week because of the tensions that happened on the borders of India and Pakistan. Now that the ceasefire has been announced, the IPL committee will soon announce the date of the return of the tournament. Speaking to the Indian Express, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal informed that they will have a meeting, and the rest of the details will be out soon.
IPL 2025 was going on at a great pace and was heading towards the playoffs. However, this halt will impact a lot of teams once the tournament restarts again. Some of the overseas players have returned to their respective countries. Now that the IPL will start again, the race to the playoffs will become even more interesting.
"Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… we need to work out venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government," said IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal.
Where will the IPL 2025 happen now?
During the tensions at the border, most of the cities in the north and west, which were hosting the IPL matches, were under threat. Hence, to avoid risking the lives of the players, the IPL committee has reportedly decided to conduct the tournament in just three venues in the south, which are threat-free: Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
There is no official confirmation on the news as of now. After the meeting, the IPL Chairman will reveal the venues, dates, and timings of the matches. Moreover, the match that got abandoned between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) is under scrutiny as well. There is no confirmation on whether the points will be divided or the match will restart.
