The 14th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw Gujarat Titans (GT) claim a key win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The stars of the show for the visiting side were Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan, who made light work of the 170-run target set by RCB. This put an end to RCB’s unbeaten start to the season that had seen Rajat Patidar’s side climb to the top of the table.
Shubman Gill’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved right as his bowlers restricted RCB to just 169 on the board. Former RCB seamer Mohammed Siraj was the best bowler with three wickets for 19 runs from his four overs. R Sai Kishore continued his purple patch with the ball, picking 2/22 from his four overs.
Liam Livingstone proved to be the main man with the bat for RCB as he scored 54 runs with the bat. In the end, the score wasn’t enough as GT won the game with eight wickets in hand and 13 balls to spare. RCB next play Mumbai Indians away from home on 7th April, while the Titans travel to Hyderabad to play Pat Cummins’ SRH on Sunday.
Jos Buttler’s blitz seals the game for Gujarat Titans
Former England skipper Jos Buttler was the best batter for the Titans as he smashed 73 not out from just 39 balls. The right-handed batter hit five boundaries and six huge sixes in his knock to help his team post an impressive win. The winning shot was hit by Sherfane Rutherford, who was not out on 30 off just 18 balls with one boundary and three sixes.
In the end, it was a comprehensive win for the Titans, who now have four points from three games. This loss means that Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are the only two sides that continue to be unbeaten in the current IPL season. The eight-wicket win for GT versus RCB is also their second biggest in terms of wickets in hand in the IPL.
Speaking at the end of the game to broadcasters, Jos Buttler said, “Really enjoyed it. Felt the bowlers did a fantastic job. If we had fielded better, myself included, we would have chased less. Nice win and well deserved. Tried to play with freedom and intent - had a few months of unenjoyable cricket, trying to give my best and excited to be here. We have got a lot of bases covered”
