The big news is out as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have released the retention list. The fans are not surprised as they have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad for INR 18 crores. CSK have won five IPL trophies in 15 years and two Champions League trophies under their belt, all won by former captain MS Dhoni. He has been a terrific leader for the team and has played numerous unbelievable knocks in his IPL career.

While reports revolved around his participation in the upcoming IPL season, everything has become clear now. CSK have released their retention list where they have retained him for the 18th season of the tournament, and the former captain will be with the team as long as he can play. Apart from Dhoni, they have gone with the present captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni passed on the baton to the 27-year-old player, who will be looking forward to building his team in the upcoming IPL seasons.

Since he is relatively young, he was given the responsibility, and he did pretty well in the previous season. Even though CSK couldn't qualify for the playoffs, they finished in the fifth position. It was an impressive team effort, and Gaikwad's captaincy was clearly visible throughout the tournament.

CSK's retention list ahead of mega auction 2024

As the CSK have released the retention list, there weren't any surprise elements as such. It was obvious that the management would retain Matheesha Pathirana for the long run. He is a young, talented bowler with a lot of potential, as they have paid INR 13 crores. Pathirana's performance in the previous IPL seasons has been fabulous, and under MS Dhoni, he was a different beast. Apart from him, they have also gone with Shivam Dube as the third retention. CSK have spent INR 12 crores for Dube and shown some serious trust in the batter.

The fourth retention is Ravindra Jadeja for INR 18 crores, which was pretty obvious again. The last retention is MS Dhoni, who is retained under the uncapped player quota. CSK have retained a total of five players and have spent 75 crores. So, they will be going into the mega auction with INR 45 crores.
