Mumbai Indians (MI) have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their next Indian Premier League (IPL) game on Friday. The Times of India has reported that Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the field has been delayed. What makes it worse is the fact that there is no immediate time limit regarding Bumrah’s return to the field. It was expected that the 31-year-old would be ready for action in the first week of April.
One source speaking to the Times of India was hopeful that Bumrah will be back in action by mid-April. The source was quoted as saying, “Bumrah's injury is a bit more serious. The medical team wants to ensure he doesn't suffer a stress fracture. Bumrah himself is being careful. He is bowling at the CoE but it could take longer to get back in full swing. No definite timeline has been set yet, but one hopes he gets back by mid-April.”
Hardik Pandya and his side are set to take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on Friday. MI won their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets to register their first points of the season. Bumrah was spotted bowling recently at the NCA as the video went viral on social media.
Can MI’s young pace sensation rise up to the occasion?
With Bumrah not facing an extended time off the field, the pressure is on Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar to shoulder the responsibility. The veteran duo bowled well in tandem against KKR and combined well to pick three wickets. Ashwani Kumar, who made his debut, was the star as he picked four for 24 to win the game for his side.
MI’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, praised the youngster and was quoted by NDTV as saying, “To see someone coming in, in their first game, under pressure, I’m happy for him. He worked on his strengths and focused on his strengths and that gave him results. It's not about performance; it's about going and enjoying what you do best,.
India’s former bowling coach also said, “A left-arm seamer who swings the ball and has high pace ticks a lot of boxes for us. Wankhede, we always knew, is a wicket that has a lot of bounce compared to others. He's the kind of guy who swings the ball a high pace as well, so we felt it was the right surface for him to pay.”
